Economic Development

The ACAWT exists in part to aid economic developers in developing Alabama's woodworking industry, the largest industry in the state.

The ACAWT works with both new and existing industries.  Some types of secondary wood manufacturers which with the ACAWT works include:

  • Furniture: solid wood, upholstery
  • Cabinetry:  residential and commercial
  • Store fixtures
  • Architectural millwork, residential and commercial
  • Panel product manufacturers:  particleboard, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), hardboard, oriented strand board (OSB), plywood
  • Wood products distribution centers
  • Bio-energy: cellulosic ethanol and hydrothermal

The ACAWT assists these industries with:

  • Marketing
  • New technologies
  • Global expansion

The ACAWT also works to develop "spin-off" industries which utilize wood products.

The ACAWT helps represent the state of Alabama at major industry trade shows such as IWF, AWFS, LIGNA+, the Tupelo Furniture Market, and others.
